The biggest revelation at the world premiere of Avatar 3 events is the introduction of the Ash People. Residing in the volcanic wastelands of Pandora, this mysterious new tribe represents a total opposite to the Omatikaya, who live in the forests, and the Metkayina, who dwell on the ocean reefs.
Under the leadership of the cruel Varang (Game of Thrones alum Oona Chaplin), the Ash People are fire incarnate. Cameron has been clear on what this means, if water symbolized adaptation and flow, fire symbolized rage, violence, and destruction. These are not the peaceful natives we’re accustomed to. They’re aggressive and territorial, and maybe most shockingly, they could be the antagonists of the story.
It’s a superb narrative turn. Cameron introduces us to a “bad” Na’vi clan, thus complicating the simple Nature vs Technology binary established in the first two films.

Visually, we’re in for a surprise. The cool blues and greens are historical. Concept art and trailer descriptions show a terrain covered with charcoal blacks, melting lavas, and blinding smoke. The Ash People themselves are said to have a unique appearance — ghostly, ash-covered skin, perhaps even physical mutations evolved for life in a volcanic environment.
Volcanoes are not the full story. The film introduces the Wind Traders as well. This nomadic group traverses the air over Pandora. New zones range from oceans to molten mountains and open skies. Pandora makes for a real, profound world. Not just a plain movie backdrop.
Let’s not lose track of that point. The Way of Water ends with an agonizing blow—the death of Neteyam. Fire and Ash now with Jake and Neytiri against the crushing weight of grief. The title itself hints at this theme, “Ash” is more than just volcanic debris, it’s what remains after a fire has burnt through. It’s like an intermission in grieving.
Rumors suggest this grief will drive a wedge in the Sully family, potentially pushing characters toward darker choices. And then there’s Colonel Quaritch. Now fully embedded in his Avatar body, he’s no longer just a soldier following orders.
He’s undergoing an identity crisis, and some theories suggest he might find a strange kinship with the aggressive philosophy of the Ash People. Could we see a team-up between the RDA and the Fire Clan? It’s a terrifying possibility.

Director Sam Hargrave has revealed details about Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 and it seems like the fans will have to wait a little longer. At the Apple TV+ premiere of his series “The Last Frontier,” Hargrave mentioned in passing that production is slated to begin in 2026. “We roll cameras in 2026, we’ll see how it goes,” which sounds like there’s still some leeway in the date. The most big issue of the delay and Hargrave let his fans wait for the next part of Extraction due to Chris Hemsworth’s busy schedule, especially with his Marvel Avengers films.
Production hold-up is due to several disagreements. Chris Hemsworth stressed the need to make the story-to-script right, telling Collider, “We just wanna make sure that we’ve got it right, that we’ve got a script that’s good enough to go follow the last two, because I am really proud of what we’ve done previously”.
The creative team is now concentrated on the development of the script and the story. As Joe Russo explained, “We’re in the process of writing that story right now. Hard at work”. In addition to this, managing Hemsworth’s busy agenda, including his Marvel obligations, also extended the timeline.

Joe Russo has teased not only Idris Elba’s role will be a big one this time around, but the actor is going to have some interesting dynamics with Chris Hemsworth’s character. If you liked the chemistry this duo in Extraction 2, rest assured this sequel will serve more of that cocktail. But as we get ready to see Priyanka Chopra Jonas step into the shoes of Ercell Bodden in The Bluff, the narrative is at long last shifting.
As anyone who bothers to look at history will tell you, women pirates didn’t just “go along for the ride.” These were ruthless, calculating, and sometimes more horrifying malevolent forces than the men they led. These 18th century pirates spent much of their lives passing as men, making their way in a world that offered them no place at the table. In the heat of battle they were said to be more “bloodthirsty” than the males. They are the “feral” energy Ercell must recapture to defend her home.
While Ercell battles on behalf of a tiny community in the Cayman Islands, her tactical prowess is a mirror image of Ching Shih (Madame Cheng). As the admiral of the Red Flag Fleet consisting of 1,500 ships and 80,000 pirates—Shih was perhaps the most prosperous pirate ever.
Significantly, she is also one of the few who actually managed to “retire” and live to tell the tale. That is the essential tension at the center of The Bluff: Ercell has found her peace, but as Ching Shih knew, your past is a shadow that never quite goes away.
Referred to as “Back from the Dead Red,” the biography of Jacquotte Delahaye is survival at its highest degree. faked her death to get away from the government, and then came back to the water with a vengeance.
This motif of “reanimation” is at The Bluff’s heart. Ercell is essentially “dead” to her former life until the wicked Captain Connor arrives and she must once again embrace her warrior spirit.
