Colin Farrell has got us very excited to return to Gotham as The Penguin in The Batman Part II. Far from it being about getting action scenes right, or even stealing the show with the character’s arc. Farrel explained in a chat with Collider that what pulls him back are the people he gets to work with, and the “Matt Reeves immersive world that’s just very, very gritty.” There’s definitely a love for the vibe and the behind the scenes team it feels like. Farrell kept it real, he explained the camaraderie and new ways of working on set keep bringing him back, as he promotes the upcoming movie The Ballad of a Small Player releasing on 29 October 2025.

Colin Farrell delivered so many thoughts on his role in HBO’s massive hit The Penguin. So the experience evidently stuck with him for good. The series its eight-episodes run in late 2024. It garnered rave reviews, high ratings, and mentions for major awards like the Emmys and Golden Globes. Farrell really got to dive deep into the character, all of the intricate layers and psychological twists and turns that you can only explore in a long form series. Apparently the part allowed him to stretch his acting chops quite a bit, and fans seemed to get as much pleasure as he did. With all the buzz around the show, it is no surprise that The Penguin turned out to be one of HBO’s breakout hits.

The show ended up a huge success, attracting 5.3 million viewers across all platforms during its first weekend, marking the largest four-day debut for a tier one Max original since The Last of Us dusted off in January 2023. The show received rave reviews from critics with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviews referring to Colin Farrell’s performance as “transformative” and “a true tour de force.”

The Question is what brings Farrell back for The Batman Part II

It’s not so much ‘What do I do with this?, but I just want to be in that world and be with Robert and be with Jeffrey again and be brought by Matt Reeves,’ said Farrell. After a deeper exploration of the HBO series character, Farrell returning to the movie sequel isn’t about further expanding the Penguin’s story, instead rejoining the talented ensemble.

The Batman Part II

Colin Farrell shared his happiness by saying “I’m really excited to be back in that world, to just be around it,” he said as he contemplated joining such an unparalleled group of creatives once more.

Reliving The Childhood Dream

Farrell’s ties to the world of Batman are deeply embedded since he was a kid growing up in Dublin. He shared, he was raised watching Burgess Meredith’s legendary turn as the Penguin in the ‘60s Batman TV series when he was 5, and then Danny DeVito’s iconic performance in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns at around 11 or 12.

Reliving The Childhood Dream

For the actor, the joy is a little simpler, just getting to play in a world “where a character called Bruce Wayne and Batman exist, is such a joy.” He admired how Reeves had “re-imagined a world that is unique enough and yet still honors the struggles of that city and the psychological struggles of the character of Bruce Wayne.”

Farrell Is Confirmed For The Batman Part II

Although Farrell has now confirmed that his part in The Batman Part II will be very small, a smaller appearance than in the first film. He has read the full script and described it as “extraordinary”. He hinted that THE BATMAN 2 is a much deeper plot, it means that Reeves is expected to be seen in scarier scenes and it will further keep the franchise as the stakes are bigger.

Farrell Is Confirmed For The Batman Part II

Filming for The Batman Part II is set to begin April 2026. Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are returning to their roles. Farrell seems doubtful about a second season of The Penguin. He said to Deadline, “I’ve heard some talk about it, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea. Part of me thinks we should just leave it as we got away with something special.”

Conclusion

For Farrell, being part of Matt Reeves’ Batman world is more than just another gig—it’s a dream come true from his childhood, and he’s surrounded by collaborators who are as passionate as he is about telling grounded, character-driven stories in the dark, complex reality of Gotham. The criminal underworld of Gotham City is once again ready to entertain their fans but Colin Farrell’s Penguin has made a permanent impact on the Batman mythos and his passion for this universe and the team behind it will keep him coming back for as long as they’ll have him.

‘Undertone’ Will be Biggest Psychological Horror Backed by A24

undertone Review: A24’s chilling psychological horror turns silence, family, and familiarity into fear, resulting in one of the studio’s most unsettling films.

Undertone

The majority of us thought the lockdown years were pretty exhausting, but director Ian Tuason made that isolation a nightmare—the good kind. His new film, Undertone, is currently the buzz at Sundance, and it’s easy to understand why. It’s a scary, sound-centered psychological horror that came from real-life anxiety and a house that could possibly be haunted now.

The Horror of Moving Back Home

We’ve all been there—crashing at your parents’ place is not whatever you’re picturing it’s going to be. But for Tuason, it was a necessity so he could tend to his ailing parents.

The Horror of Moving Back Home

In an interview with Variety, he shared his experiences of where he got the idea. While he was there, he began to consider what makes us feel safe —and what happens when you flip that on its head. The Exorcist concept (taking a “safe” daughter and making her scary) and applied it to his own life.

“My mind is stuck on ‘The Exorcist’, how it scared me so much when I was a kid.”

–He said

He wondered, What if my mom, who relies on me, starts speaking in a different voice? That dark thought transformed a simple podcast script into a feature film. He even shot it in his parents’ house to save money, but it came at a price. Living on your own horror set meant he never felt truly alone, and he said the house began feeling “haunted” well after the cameras stopped rolling.

Why You Should Watch With Your Headphones On

Your Headphones On

Undertone is distinguished by its sound. The lead, Evy, is the host of a podcast, and the film plays with your ears. Tuason engineered the sound as if you are wearing noise-cancelling headphones.

“Do you know that weird silence level where you have no clue what’s happening in the room behind you?”

–He said

That’s precisely what he employs to frighten you. The film oddballed the sounds that Evy hears on her tapes and the sounds that are really in her hallway.

Catching the Eyes of the Giants

The hype around Undertone is deafening and it seems like the biggest names in horror are officially placing their bets on Tuason. That’s just the beginning: A24 has already acquired the film and scheduled a March 13 release.

Catching the Eyes of the Giants

The legends behind Blumhouse and Atomic Monster (the producers of Insidious and The Conjuring) are the ones who brought in Tuason to give the Paranormal Activity franchise a revamp. It’s a complete full circle moment for a guy who started out recording spooky noises in his childhood bedroom. If he can make a DIY movie at his parents’ house this scary, then we can’t wait to see what he does with a Hollywood budget and the keys to one of the biggest horror series in history.

Conclusion

Undertone confirms the greatest horror has never been monsters or jump scares—it’s familiarity. By weaponizing a childhood home, a parent’s voice, and silence itself, Ian Tuason crafts a deeply personal and unsettling journey. Its choreography of sound is so perfect that it’s a movie to watch with headphones, each whisper feeling invasive and intimate.

With Sundance buzz, an A24 release, and major horror studios lining up to back Tuason’s next project, Undertone is not just a powerful first feature—it’s the introduction of a filmmaker who gets that the real horror is right at home.

Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 Officially in the Works — Delay Reasons, Story Details & More

Chris Hemsworth's Extraction 3 is back, Find out about filming status, the reason for delay, the confirmed cast and what the sequel has in store for your fans.

Director Sam Hargrave has revealed details about Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 and it seems like the fans will have to wait a little longer. At the Apple TV+ premiere of his series “The Last Frontier,” Hargrave mentioned in passing that production is slated to begin in 2026. “We roll cameras in 2026, we’ll see how it goes,” which sounds like there’s still some leeway in the date. The most big issue of the delay and Hargrave let his fans wait for the next part of Extraction due to Chris Hemsworth’s busy schedule, especially with his Marvel Avengers films.

Reasons for the Delay of Extraction 3

Production hold-up is due to several disagreements. Chris Hemsworth stressed the need to make the story-to-script right, telling Collider, “We just wanna make sure that we’ve got it right, that we’ve got a script that’s good enough to go follow the last two, because I am really proud of what we’ve done previously”.

The creative team is now concentrated on the development of the script and the story. As Joe Russo explained, “We’re in the process of writing that story right now. Hard at work”. In addition to this, managing Hemsworth’s busy agenda, including his Marvel obligations, also extended the timeline.

What the Previous Movies Have Given Us

The Extraction franchise has become the best action thriller series on Netflix. The original 2020 film was watched by more than 99 million households in its first month, shattering Netflix records and becoming the platform’s most-viewed original film at the time.

Extraction 2, was released in June 2023, continuing the success with more than 85 million views within its first ten days. The franchise broke the record by being the first movie series to hold Netflix’s no.1 and no.2 spots for two straight weeks.

The films follow Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a black ops mercenary with a troubled past. Extraction had him rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian crime lord in Bangladesh. Extraction 2 featured a risky prison extraction in Georgia, where Rake saved his ex-wife’s sister and her children from her violent gangster husband.

What to Expect in the Third Installment

Extraction 3 is due to start immediately after the end of the second film, opening up with the cliffhanger ending. Tyler and Nik were released after a harrowing mission in Georgia when Idris Elba’s mysterious character, Alcott, intervened. But there’s a catch: he’s got a new job for them, as Digital Spy stated, from his shadowy and apparently ultra-hard boss.

Expect in the Third Installment

Joe Russo has teased not only Idris Elba’s role will be a big one this time around, but the actor is going to have some interesting dynamics with Chris Hemsworth’s character. If you liked the chemistry this duo in Extraction 2, rest assured this sequel will serve more of that cocktail. Plus: Alcott’s employer, who is called a “gnarly motherfucker.” Sounds like there’s a lot of action and mystery right up my alley!

Cast Members for Extraction 3

  • Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake
  • Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan, Tyler’s partner
  • Idris Elba as Alcott, the mysterious handler

Director’s Theme for the Movie

Director Sam Hargrave and writer Joe Russo have now revealed some exciting new information regarding Extraction 3, teasing that the story is going to explore more of Tyler Rake’s emotional state. Russo said Tyler’s character is interesting because he’s emotionally wounded, and his relationship with violence is motivated by self-loathing and guilt.

Director's Theme for the Movie

It sounds like there’s a lot of play in his backstory that can be told. Hargrave calls the series “a redemption story through sacrifice,” with Tyler seeking meaning through these high-stakes assignments. Fans will also be able to enjoy the series’ signature intense action sequences, all while getting an ever closer look at what makes Tyler tick. Looks like this next installment will bring a nice balance of heart-stopping thrills and tear-jerking moments.

Conclusion

Extraction 3 is going to be even more action-packed thrills with Tyler Rake back in the forefront ready to adapt to new challenges. Filming in 2026 with a story that promises an exciting continuation … but now, there’s a neat twist. Idris Elba joins the cast in a secret role tied to an influential employer, adding even more layers (and lore) to the franchised mythology. Viewers can expect explosive action, heartbreaking drama, and a new layer of mystery as the show takes us to new corners of its world. Looks like a lot more to look forward to here!
